Hello,
My interest in tracing the family tree began in the early 1990’s. The majority of my research was done by contacting family members, researching vital records through churches, municipalities, state governments, and cemeteries. I also used old-fashioned letter writing, and had the opportunity to connect with Giampino’s from Italy, Australia, and throughout the United States. Now through the Internet, I have had the opportunity to expand my research and connect with many more from France, Wales, and in the USA, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, California, and Washington!
My second great-grandfather, Francesco (born about 1856), and my second great-grandmother, Marianna, arrived in the United States from Palermo, Sicily, about 1886. They had two children, Domenico, and my great-grandfather, Raimondo.
Raimondo was born in Palermo on March 22, 1883. He married Provvidenza (Frances) Federico, who was also from Palermo, and they settled in Newark, New Jersey. They had eight children: Marion, Frank, Lena, Anthony (died as an infant), Christine, Anthony, Raymond and Prudence.
Domenico (Jimmy) was born on January 9, 1879 also in Palermo. He married Loretta and they had three children: Ann, Frank, and August (Gus). Through my research, I found that my great-grand-uncle’s family was know as “Champino.” They resided in Hoboken, New Jersey.
My third great-grandfather, Francesco’s father, was Domenico and he married Caterina Fraumeni on January 18, 1838. They had nine children: Francesco – 1842; Gaetano – 1838; Giovanna – 1847; Francesco – 1849; Giovanna – 1851; Francesco – 1856; Achille and Rosario – 1859; and Rosario – 1864. Domenico died in 1882.
Domenico’s mother and father were Gaetano & Rosa Gebbia. They had four children: Domenico; Michele; Domenico, and Stefano.
This Giampino family has had some family reunions through the years. However, with the unfortunate passing of many members of our family between 2004-2005, we decided that we should have annual reunions. And so our First Annual Giampino Reunion was held in July 2005 near Clinton, New Jersey.
I currently have almost 1,000 ancestors in my database on “my” family. And through my contact with other Giampino’s throughout the world, I am now acquiring names and dates of all Giampino ancestors to hopefully find where all of us are related! If you wish to contact me and share your Giampino ancestors, I would be happy to include you and them in my research.
Ciao,
Terry Giampino
